MILLIE VANILLY !!!

This is MILAGRA or Millie, the newest addition to my family.  She was left at my doorstep at 5 weeks of age and weighing 1/2 kilo.

She is healthier now and into everything..including chasing the other 5 dogs around the yard.

BIENVENIDOS MILLIE!

SEAMSTRESS STRESS or should I say STRETCH?

A very good client of mine had me make a custom slipcover for her hide a bed. It was a lot of work toting my sewing machine to her house...up and down, up and down...not bad work for someone my age.  I am very happy with the outcome...but need a rest now...should I fold out the bed?

QUILTING CLASSES DECEMBER 2013

I am excited to have 6 students learning to quilt.  All of them are first time quilters and they are doing awesome work.  THEY ARE ADDICTED to QUILTING NOW!  As soon as I get the photos off my phone I will post some more photos.  Below Vianey is working on a patchwork, Bonnie an art quilt and Patti a quilted rooster mixer cover.  We call this ¨HAVING FUN!¨

INTERNATIONAL QUILT SHOW HOUSTON 2013

YEP..Here I am at the International Quilt Show with my Pickin Berries on display.  What a thrill.  A life long dream fulfilled.

A special thanks to Sheelagh Richards for coming to Houston with me and taking some really great photos...although most of them are just me and my quilt!

I did a little PR for Costa Rican coffee while I my head was swelling from the adulations.  A few lucky people went home with a bag of coffee.

For those of you who have followed my blog and progress....I have come a long way from my first sketch as shown below.

“I am so proud to be representing Costa Rica in one of the largest International Quilt Shows. I was selected as one of 22 finalists in the specific category of quilts demonstrating the theme of TRADITIONS.

As I watched my neighbors head off one morning to pick coffee, I reflected on the dichotomy between the current influx of technology (cell phones, cell towers, laptops, and flat screen TVs) and the manually intensive process of hand picking coffee beans.  This was the inspiration for my quilt “Pickin Berries”.

I wanted to capture three generations of Costa Ricans maintaining their agri-tradition of hand picking coffee berries, even as technology encroaches on the horizon and modernization influences the youth.

I hope my work will encourage more women to enjoy the art of quilting in Costa Rica¨

WHAT´s NEXT????

Would you believe that this is one of the first quilts I ever made....almost 40 years ago....I used a baby announcement card...copied the picture and then sent the quilt and a package of announcements to my sister Anita.  Not so much quilting on this one by today's standards.....I have come a long ways, baby!

BUNNIES and A BAG

I made this circular bunny baby quilt for a dear friend to give as a gift. It measures about 42¨in diameter and was just so darn cute I decided to do one with toucans....stay tuned to see a picture of that one soon.

SOPHIA TAKES A BATH

I finished this 12¨x 12¨portrait quilt of my great niece, SOPHIA.

She is taking a bath and sucking on her froggy bath doll!

I plan to send this to my sister, Grandma Anita, for save keeping.

I hope you enjoy.
